The Inspiring 3D Artists We Followed in 2020

2020 was the year we spent absurd amounts of time sitting in our living rooms, learning how to bake for the first time, and making good friends with our house plants.

โ€ฆwell, at least for most of us!

Others in the industry never stopped. From short animated films to cartoon visuals and video games, here are Vagonโ€™s pick for the top 3D artists in 2020.

Roger Magrini ๐Ÿ”—

Working as Freelance 3D Character Artist from Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil, Roger Magrini specializes in hyper-realistic visualizations of people with details that seem too real to be 3D.

From attentive focus on wrinkles in the lips, to the smallest details including nose hairs, his works are so realistic they really come to life right before your eyes!

Leticia Gillett ๐Ÿ”—

Specializing in character modeling at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Leticia is pretty well known in the industry for her animated, and at times, adorable depictions of cartoon characters.

With over 17K followers on ArtStation, itโ€™s not hard to see why her works get so much attention, taking the viewer into the animated world in which they exist!

Skeeva ๐Ÿ”—

Eugene Golovanchuk, also known as Skeeva, is a self-taught Art Director and Digital 3D artist based in Kiev, Ukraine.

First starting out his works in a mix of 3D dark-art surrealism, with cyberpunk style, Skeeva is more recently working on clothing animation for a variety of different companies around the world.

Nika Maisuradze ๐Ÿ”—

Nika Maisuradze made it on the list for 2020 due to their incredible renders appearing to be realistic photos of nature and scenery.

Our personal favorite from their collection is the seahorse in corals, which looks so lifelike and oriented in a detailed background, it might as well be put right in an article of National Geographic!

Billelis ๐Ÿ”—

Based in Edinburgh, Billelis is a freelance 3D Illustrator and Art Director, focused on decorative art and dark visuals, largely inspired by the moody environment of the city.

Our personal favorite is his work the Brides of Lucifer, which depict an underworld of beings covered in shiny gold. If youโ€™re interested in darker pieces, he is definitely an artist worth following!

Christian Behrendt ๐Ÿ”—

Christian Behrendt is a Cologne-based Digital Artist specializing in high-end CGI images and animations.

With creations bring a setting to life, from rainy cyberpunk city streets to stunning renders of the Italian coast line, this up and coming 3D artist is one to keep an eye on into the coming new year.

Zigor Samaniego ๐Ÿ”—

Well known in the industry for his character modeling and cartoon visualization, Zigor Samaniego is a Freelance Graphic and 3D illustrator based in Spain.

With colorful animations of a variety of different characters and environments, this artist is a must follow if you are in the business of character animation!

Joannie Leblanc ๐Ÿ”—

As a 3D lighting artist with a passion for video games, Joannie Leblanc has a focus on the details that make a video game come to life.

With experience working on the lighting team with FarCry Primal and FarCry Dawn, her pieces are elevated to real, lifelike depictions of fantasy worlds.

If youโ€™re interested in video game setting design, Joannie is highly-recommended for some great inspiration.

Tomer Meltser ๐Ÿ”—

As an Environment Artist working at Guerrilla Games, Tomer Meltser is another great 3D artist to follow if youโ€™re interested in 3D fantasy settings and video game visualization.

Based in Amsterdam, Tomerโ€™s environments incorporate a variety of different vibes, from cyberpunk alley ways to asian markets.

The details are what always make his work stand out from the rest!

Dalmiro Buigues ๐Ÿ”—

From San Juan, Argentina, Dalmiro Buigues is a Director and Art Designer focused on character modeling and development.

Currently working as Director with, his art combines colorful animations with glossy and complementary environments.

A must see artist if you are working in cartoon animations and character development.

Jakub Javora ๐Ÿ”—

With a background studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and over 10 years of experience as a matte painter and concept artist in the movie and commercial industry, Jakub Javora is a 3D artist with typical works representing that of lifelike paintings and scenery depictions.

Well known in the industry, Jakub currently works for Paranormal as a concept artist.

Check out his work if youโ€™re interested in fantasy scenery and characters that bend reality into combinations of what is known!

Pedro Conti ๐Ÿ”—

Another well known artist in the industry, Pedro Conti is known for his character development and animation work for a variety of clients, including Dreamworks Animation, Marvel, and Paramount to name a few.

Most recently, Pedro contributed to a role in the production of Moana with Walt Disney Animation Studios. If you are in the industry of character development and animation, Pedro is a must-follow artist in the industry.

Raphael Rau ๐Ÿ”—

As a 3D artist specialized in photorealistic, physically-based computer imagery, Raphaelโ€™s work is varied in scope, from art direction to logo animation and packshots.

Our personal favorite from his collection is Work Life which looks like something of a 3D animated version of a still life, with special focus on lighting and shading within the piece.

Grand Chamaco ๐Ÿ”—

Based in Los Ramones, Mexico, Grand Chamaco is a 3D artist focused on character animation with colorful worlds that come to life on screen.

Spending most of his 20โ€™s traveling the world for perfection of his art and the chance to learn from mentors in the industry, the work he creates today is something of an animatorโ€™s dream.

Our personal favorite is Amigos in the Real World, which combines his pieces with real life settings - like for example, the dragon roaming the city streets of an Asian city!
