WHY VAGON
● 01
Installs in one command
The Cursor CLI installs with one command on Linux or WSL and one PowerShell command on Windows. Run it in a terminal on your Vagon computer; nothing goes on your laptop.
Sandboxed, then isolated
Cursor’s CLI has a sandbox you can switch on, with network access controlled in the same menu, and you approve commands. It all runs on a separate Vagon VM, away from your laptop’s files.
MCP server, app and GPU together
Add an app’s MCP server to mcp.json on the same computer. RTX-enabled NVIDIA GPUs and 149 preinstalled apps, or install your own.
Watch it, take over, reset
It is a live desktop in your browser: grab the mouse when Cursor gets stuck. Reset to a clean image after a risky run; shut down and the meter stops.
SETUP
● 02
01
Pick Windows for the app guides (SolidWorks needs Windows) or Ubuntu for coding and browser work. Add your apps and Vagon installs them before you connect.
02
Open a terminal on the Vagon computer, run Cursor’s installer, then run agent login and sign in with your own Cursor account in the browser. Start agent in your project folder. Nothing gets installed on your laptop.
TERMINAL · VAGON COMPUTER
Ubuntu shown. On Windows use the PowerShell installer from Cursor’s docs, then check sign-in with agent status. Vagon supplies no AI access or keys.
03
Cursor reads .cursor/rules, plus AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md in the project root, so put build and test rules there. Add each app’s MCP server to mcp.json and check it with agent mcp list.
MCP servers
Enable a local server, then log in to a remote one with OAuth.
Rules files
Project rules go in .cursor/rules as .mdc files. Add an AGENTS.md in the repository root for plain rules.
04
Pick how much Cursor may do. Agent mode is the default: you review proposed changes and approve commands. For a look-only first run use Ask mode (read-only), and use /sandbox to turn the sandbox and network access on or off.
FIRST RUN
A read-only first run, with a prompt from the Codex + SolidWorks guide.

WORKING WITH CURSOR
● 05
Rules, MCP and permissions
Rules load automatically. The CLI uses the editor’s rules system: .cursor/rules (.mdc files), plus AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md at the project root. Keep them short and specific.
Permissions live in JSON. Global settings go in ~/.cursor/cli-config.json, and a project can add .cursor/cli.json. Each holds allow and deny lists.
Modes and sandbox. Agent is the default; Plan and Ask (read-only) are the others. /sandbox or --sandbox turns the sandbox on or off.
Approvals. Tokens like Shell(git) or Read(.env*) go in allow or deny lists. Deny rules win over allow, so block secrets and risky commands first.
MCP on the Vagon computer
Same config as the editor. The CLI reads mcp.json from the project (.cursor/mcp.json) or your home folder (~/.cursor/mcp.json). agent mcp login handles OAuth.
stdio or remote URL. A stdio server takes command and args; a remote one takes url and headers. agent mcp enable approves a server.
Pick up a saved chat. agent resume reopens the latest conversation; agent ls lists chats.
You bring Cursor access and licenses. Sign in with your own Cursor account, or set a CURSOR_API_KEY for scripts. Apps such as SolidWorks or Premiere Pro need your own license on the computer.
